William T., beloved husband of the late Doreen (nee Hoop) Cosgrove; devoted father of Tom (Suzanne) Cosgrove, Mary (Kipp) Hoffmeier, Bill (Karen) Cosgrove, John (Heidi) Cosgrove, Theresa Vincent, Kathleen (Don) Frericks, Jerry Cosgrove, and Luke (Dreama) Cosgrove; cherished grandfather of Brendan (Kelly) Riordan, Chris Cosgrove, Kevin Cosgrove, Ross (Laura) Dolan, Colin Dolan, Tiphani Hoffmeier, Ben (Melissa) Cosgrove, Dorie Cosgrove, Ellie Cosgrove, Aidan Cosgrove, Melissa (Mike) Keuffer, Lindsey Vincent, Stacy (Kurt) Rothert, Cara (Kyle) Sanna, Mary Frericks, Ethan Frericks, Rachel Frericks, Annie Ruedger, and Ryan Cosgrove; loving great grandfather of Flynn, Gabe, Laney, Gracie, Emmie, Emma, Aubrey, Isaac, Nathan, Kelly; dear brother of Rosemary (John) Baele, the late Jean Alice Cosgrove, the late Don Cosgrove, and the late Mark (Betty) Cosgrove. William grew up on Grove Avenue in Norwood along with his two brothers and two sisters. He was an exceptional student and athlete and attended St. Matthew Elementary School and Purcell High School where he was elected Prom King his senior year. Several years later, William received the "Praestans Inter Omnes" (Outstanding Among All) Award - the highest honor awarded to select alumni - for an exemplary life of achievement and contribution. Following high school, he attended Xavier University where he lettered 4 years on the basketball team and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree. A WWII veteran, he proudly served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, during which time he was a POW and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a wonderful father of eight and was married to his dear wife, Doreen, for one month shy of fifty years when she passed away in 2000. William was a dedicated executive prior to his retirement from Blue Cross/Blue Shield where he was the Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Sales and lobbyist in Washington, D.C. He proudly served the city of Norwood as the Vice Mayor for 35 years and was a lifelong active member and avid volunteer for Holy Trinity Church in Norwood. He was also involved with countless other community programs during his lifetime. Passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the age of 89. A visitation will take place at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 5501 Montgomery Rd., Norwood on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 2420 Drex Ave., Norwood on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 4380 Glendale-Milford Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45242.
