Floyd was born on August 26, 1920 at the Brown family farm in Casey County, KY, the fifth of ten children. Having a caring, giving, responsible attitude from the beginning, he naturally became the second mother to the next of youngest siblings as they came along. In his younger years, he helped with the family farm and saw mill and drove the lumber trucks. He always had a strong interest in mechanics, machines, cars, lawnmowers, old clocks and especially sewing machines!
He was drafted into the Army at the age of twenty one and along with three of his brothers were all overseas in WWII. Floyd served in the Army Signal Corps as communications lineman in the Pacific in New Guinea, the Philippines and finally Japan after the surrender.
After the war, he returned, married, started a family and eventually moved to northern Cincinnati for work. He was employed as a sewing machine technician for Stearns & Foster Mattress Company in Lockland, OH, retiring in 1985. For the next twenty five years he continued to repair sewing machines, clocks and lawnmowers from home. He lived to work on a sewing machine and had amazing patience for any task. Even at ninety five years of age, people were still bringing their machines to him for repair, and he loved it.
He was a devoted and regular member of Lockland Baptist Church and later Landmark Baptist Temple in Evendale, OH. He drove the church bus for over two decades. He was active with church activities (clothing and food pantry) and present anytime the doors were open.
Funeral arrangements are with Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Homes, 11365 Springdale Pike, Springdale, OH. Visitation will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 2 - 4 PM for the northern folks. For the southerners, a visitation from 2 - 3 PM and a brief graveside service will follow Monday September 11 in Casey County KY at the Willow Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
