BATESRuth Mae (nee Canter) of Woodlawn, OH passed away June 21, 2012 at the age of 82. Born on May 11, 1930 in Orient, Pickaway County to Heber and Nora Canter. Devoted wife of Paul Edward (Eddie) Bates for 60 years, married September 14, 1951. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Carol and Richard Ingle of Mentor and Paul (Jr.) and Julie Bates of Dearborn, MI. Loving grandmother of Tim and April Ingle of Lakewood, Laura Ingle of Mentor, and Nicole and Kristen Bates of Dearborn, MI. Sister and Sister-in-law of Stan and Gwen Canter and Mary and Dick Mayer. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews on both sides of their family and great aunt to their children. Graduate of Columbus East High School, she worked as a bookkeeper at Procter and Gamble, in sales at Shillito's, and volunteered at Longbranch Farm, a working educational farm park owned by Cincinnati Nature Center. She enjoyed a lifelong love of birdwatching, reading, traveling, and nature walks, especially at their farm in Highland County. Her devotion to other people's needs will be greatly missed.A Memorial service will be held on July 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Road North, Pickerington, OH 43147, (614) 837-2826.
