Richard Shafter Tinsley Sr. was born on July 29, 1945 in Flat Lick, KY to the late Shafter and Fannie Tinsley. He passed away on June 6, 2020 in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 74. He was the beloved husband of Peggie Polite Tinsley and adored father of Monica (Todd) Civils and Richard S. Tinsley Jr. He was grandfather to his cherished granddaughter Peyton "Precious" Civils.
Richard dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and often sang in the church alongside his Mother. He graduated from Pineville High School and continued his education at West Kentucky Vocational School in Paducah, KY where he became a master carpenter. He bravely served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967-1969 for the United States Army Americal Division as Sergeant earning a Bronze Star at the honorable discharge of his service.
He began his career in 1983 at Fluor Daniel Fernald and retired in 2006 as Safety Director. In 1994, he started Tinsley Lawn Care that remains in business today. With his son alongside, Richard's passion was to provide quality lawn care and customer service to his patrons. He was the pure essence of a hard worker and community servant. He worked on countless campaigns for The United Way and fundraisers for the Vietnam Veterans of America. He also served as President of the Forest Park Democrat Club for eight years. He loved and was a true pillar of his community.
In addition to his wife, children, and granddaughter, Richard is survived by his sister, Ima Jean (Matthew) McCowan, Danville, KY; aunt Joy Ella Boulware, Radcliff, KY; brother in law John Clark, Flat Lick, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Alfred Thompson, sister Juanita Clark, brother Roselle Tinsley, and sister in law Barbara Tinsley.
