Phyllis Riedeman Cartwright, beloved wife for 53 years of James Henry Cartwright (deceased), cherished mother of Elizabeth Gilbert (John Otteson) Cartwright and Ried Henry Cartwright, devoted grandmother of James and Julia Otteson and Henry and Sawyer Cartwright. Phyllis passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2015. Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial service on Saturday, August 15, 015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, 225 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, OH 45215. Phyl graduated from Mariemont High School, and Hanover College. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. It was quite clear to all her knew her, that Phyl was a consummate teacher. She loved teaching, and fortunate to be involved in education as a middle school and high school teacher for English and Drama both in Long Beach, California as well as at the Seven Hills School in Cincinnati. She also worked for the Wyoming Schools for a number of years. Once she retired from teaching, she and Jim were able to travel the world, which was another passion of hers. After retiring, Phyl and Jim were residents of both Mariemont and Long Lake, MI, dividing their time between both. Phyl was a volunteer with the Marielders and a member of the Mariemont Garden Club. She was known for her warmth, gourmet cooking and her passion for life. There was no one more fun to be around than Phyl! She loved her family, friends and her little cat Spencer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mariemont Preservation Foundation, Save the Animals Foundation (STAF) or Hospice of Cincinnati.
