UNITED STATES COAST GUARD VETERAN
NIGHTINGALE, Paul E.Age 85. Died March 11, 2020. Born in Danforth, Maine, Paul was a co-owner of Moody Nightingale, a civil engineering, architectural design and surveying firm in Fort Wayne, Indiana for many years. After graduating from high school, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years. During this service, he sailed on the tall ship, the "Eagle" to Europe and to Bermuda, as well as on an icebreaker. Following honorable discharge, he attended Ricker College in Maine and Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne. In the mid eighties, he lived in London, England for three years. In 2000, Paul moved to Cincinnati and served as a board member and then president of Glenview Home Owners Association for over 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Hoffert) Nightingale; sons, Steven (Shelly) and Christopher (Claudia) Bower, and Matthew, Alton and Donald Nightingale; a sister, Patricia Myers; and grandchildren, Allison, Eric, Alexander and Lucas Bower, and Maple Nightingale. A brother, Dr. Ray (Maria) Nightingale predeceased him; as did a brother-in-law, Norbert Myers.
A kind man, helpful to many, Paul enjoyed travel, canoeing, art, making stained glass windows, reading, and spending time in Michigan. A memorable canoe trip was two weeks traversing Hudson Bay in Canada.
Friends may greet the family at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pk., on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 10 AM until time of Celebration of Life at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery,
