Nancy Palmer Wickemeyer, 96, passed away June 18, 2022. Beloved Wife of the late Edward W. Wickemeyer, loving Mother of Jennifer S. (Mark) Glassmeyer, Wayne T. (Brenda) Wickemeyer, Daniel M. (Kelly) Wickemeyer, and the late Westlund O. (Kathy-deceased) Wickemeyer. Dear Grandmother of Mark (Tracy) Glassmeyer, Michael (Ellen) Glassmeyer, Matthew (Andrea) Glassmeyer, Eric (Lynn) Wickemeyer, Elizabeth Wickemeyer, Nathan Wickemeyer, and Charlee Wickemeyer. Loving Great Grandmother of Andrew Glassmeyer, Wil Glassmeyer, Ryan Glassmeyer, Lucy Glassmeyer, Grace Glassmeyer, Hannah Glassmeyer, Wyatt Glassmeyer, Chase Glassmeyer, Connor Wickemeyer, Lily Wickemeyer, and Reid Wickemeyer.
Nancy grew up in the Price Hill area of Cincinnati, attended Western Hills High School, Miami of Ohio and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a teaching degree in Health and Physical Education. She began teaching at Norwood High School in 1964 and taught for 30 years. After retiring from teaching, Nancy’s lifelong love of animals and nature, led her to a new career of volunteering at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. For the next 37 years, she volunteered in the Education Department at The Wild Discovery Zones, ZVO watches and Outreach Programs. In 1998, Nancy became the Program Chairperson of the National Zoo organization, AZAD. She Volunteered at C.R.E.W. for the Speakers Bureau, the Endocrine Lab, the Plant Lab, helped revise the C.R.E.W Handbook and manned the reception desk. In 2006, Nancy became the Vice Chairperson of the Volunteer Educators Leadership Organization and the Lead of the C.R.E.W. Speakers Bureau. Nancy was a shining example of the true spirit, love and dedication of volunteerism. Thoughout all the years volunteering, she found time for another one of her loves, travel. Some of the places she traveled included; Africa, Switzerland, China, Alaska, Galapagos Islands, Germany, Italy, France, Hawaii, and Trinidad. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered, please join us to celebrate her life. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 28 at 1:00 PM at the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church Sanctuary located at 5950 Montgomery Road, Pleasant Ridge, Ohio 45213. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name be made to The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, The Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
