Joseph Loch, aged 94, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2016. Joe was born in Merrillville, IN, the son of Elizabeth (Straky) and Michael Loch, immigrants from Ujvar, Romania. He is predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Sue (Loch) Zventina. Joe grew up in Chicago. He served in the US Army, 1942–1946, including time in Europe. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star. He graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering in 1947 and later earned a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering from University of Cincinnati in 1969. He married Emily Repasky in New York City on July 20, 1946. She predeceased him on July 14, 2005. Joe is survived by his children: James R. Loch, Portland, OR; Thomas G. Loch, Batavia, OH; and Rita Loch Caruso, Ann Arbor, MI. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Stephen Loch, Jonathan Loch, Karin Loch, Michael Loch, Anthony Caruso, and Elise Caruso. A 7th grandchild, John T. Loch, predeceased him in 2014. Joe’s love of airplanes led to a career in aerospace engineering, much of it at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. He loved to read and he enjoyed planning projects for his house in North Avondale. Special thanks to the Carmelite Sisters and staff at St. Margaret Hall who cared for him in his final years. There is a memorial mass in the chapel of St. Margaret Hall, 1960 Madison Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45206 at 11:00 am, November 12, followed by a reception at Seasons 52, 3819 Edwards Rd, 12:30-2:30 pm. Donations may be made to St. Margaret Hall in his memory.
