Joseph W. Jr., beloved husband of Rita (nee Russe) Degaro for 60 years; devoted father of the late Diane (Ken) Cundiff, Linda Koscianski, and Steve Degaro; cherished grandfather of Laura (Chad) Warman, Bethany (Jimmy) Tormey, Ryan (Brynne) Koscianski, Rachel (Michael) Noa, Amy (Brian) Nolan, Molly (Brett Hamlin) Degaro, and Maggie (Zach Ilg) Degaro; great grandfather of Michael and Samantha Nolan and Austin Hamlin; dear brother of Josephine (the late Tom) DeSalvo, the late Vincent (Jane) Degaro and the late Charles (the late Helen) Degaro; brother-in-law of Ramona (Richard) Leist; father-in-law of Jenny Turnbull and Ron Koscianski. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Joseph was born and raised in Norwood, OH and lived in the same house for 82 wonderful years. He graduated from Purcell High School in 1949 and Xavier University in 1954 after earning his Bachelor's in Economics. He played three sports at Purcell and football and baseball at Xavier Univeristy. During his time at Xavier he participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and proudly served two years as an Army 1st Lieutenant stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He played baseball and coached football for Fort Riley's Big Red One. Growing up, he worked many summers at his family's M. Degaro Produce Company, Inc. before becoming a partner and owner for more than 40 years. He worked alongside his family and colleagues until his retirement in 1997. Never one to stay idle, he started with Wild Oats Market just two years later and worked there for seven years. Joseph was loved and treasured by many and will be greatly missed. He passed away peacefully on December 23, 2013 at the age of 82 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be at St. Cecilia Parish, 3105 Madison Rd., Oakley on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
