Hugh Garvin, Jr., lifelong resident of Glendale, Ohio and WWll veteran, passed away on July 3, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born on December 24,1922 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Adelaide Richardson Garvin and late Hugh Garvin, Sr. He was married to Jane Hamilton Garvin of Glendale, Ohio for 70 years. He lived nearly all of his life in the same residence, surrounded by a large extended family. Hugh was affectionately known as “Bub” by family and friends. He attended Glendale School, Hughes High School in Cincinnati and graduated high school from Vermont Academy in Saxon's River, VT. Bub began college at Ohio State University, where he met the love of his life, Jane Hamilton. When the US entered WWll, he enlisted in the US Navy's submarine corps serving in the Pacific theater aboard the U.S.S. Atule. He served for 3 years, 3 months and 3 days, and married Jane on December 28, 1945 after discharge. He completed a Bachelor's degree at the University of Cincinnati. Bub spent 25 years of his working life as a manager with Chas. Taylor and Sons. Bub was an active member of the Village of Glendale and served for 26 years on the village council, as well as its vice mayor under James Carruthers. Bub was well known as a self-taught woodworker and delighted his family and friends with gifts of handcrafted furniture and keepsakes. He had a busy retired life, and many in the village considered him a loyal friend and civic pillar. Bub was a family man and devoted husband, raising three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Some of his favorite times were spent at the family summer home in Pointe au Barile, Ontario, Canada with his large extended family. Bub was an integral part in sustaining the legacy his grandmother created for her family on Treasure Island. In addition to his wife, Jane, Bub is preceded in death by his sisters Annis (Terry) Welch, and Fru Byrne, and his brother, James Garvin. Bub is survived by his sister, Adelaide Stevens and his three children Ann (David) Garvin, Sarah Callahan and Hugh “Buzz” (Dana) Garvin, III, his four grandchildren Grace Callahan, Taylor (Taylor) Garvin, Alex (Kerry) Garvin and Drew (Brittany) Garvin and his two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Brayden Garvin.
