WENGLERHerbert William. My husband and life companion was peacefully called from my side on December 23, 2009 at the age of 77. I, Joan (nee Huegel) was honored to be his wife for more than 55 years. Herb was the younger son of the late Anna and Ernst Wengler. Sharing the remorse of his absence from our lives are: daughter, Pam Jones (Steve); son, Jeff Wengler (Lauren); grandchildren, Austin and Avery Wengler; brother, Ernie Wengler (Carolyn); nephews, Eddie (Karen), Michael (Sarah) and Gregg Wengler; nieces, Ann Wengler, Jane Cantey (Larry), Kathy Thacker (Perry), and Cindy West (Bart); cousin, Jeanie Fossier; loyal friend of over 60 years and Masonic Brother, Jack Jercher (Carol) and many devoted and cherished friends, who raised our spirits and warmed our hearts, through loving acts of kindness.Herb was a graduate of Walnut Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati, School of Business Administration. Other than two years of service in the Army, his working life was spent in the family business, Meierjohan-Wengler, Inc., eventually, he owned the company. During his last 10 years before retirement, Herb became nationally recognized for his designs of beautiful and unusual cremation urns produced in bronze, stainless steel, aluminum, pewter, wood, granite, and other materials. Most were manufactured in the company's facility.Herb was a member of Queen City Lodge #559 F&AM and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati. One of his joys was singing and over the course of his lifetime, he participated in 6 choirs, the last being The Scottish Rite Cathedral Choir. Herb served as Councilman and Vice Mayor for the Village of Glendale, was a member of The Planning and Historic Preservation Commission, Past President of Glendale Heritage Preservation, and an active member of The Glendale Men's Garden Club.Herb was a strong soldier and fought a courageous battle against an unrelenting evil, pancreatic cancer. It was his wish that his death serve to fund research, offering hope of a cure to future victims of this disease. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking friends to consider a memorial donation to: The Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714. 100% of a tax deductible donation goes to pancreatic research.A private family service is planned for a later date. Cremation has occurred. Interment will be at that time when Herb and I may resume our place and rest contentedly at the other's side. That which temporarily separated us in life will eventually reunite us in eternity.
