ALLEN
Harold E., beloved husband of the late Ruth (nee Reifsteck) Allen; loving stepfather of Diana Thurner; brother of Sally (Jim) Kellenberger and the late Pete Allen and Susie (nee Allen) Hardwood. Harold is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Jane Allen. Harold passed away on August 29, 2014 at the age of 84. He was an alumni of Lincoln Community High School, Lincoln, Illinois (1948). He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and served from 1948-1952. He received five bronze service stars with his Korean Service Medal. Harold was very proud to attend the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2013. He retired in 1993 from Emery Industries (Heinke) as a chemical operator. He was an avid bowler and won a few "league champion" trophies. He was also part owner of a fantasy baseball team (with his adopted son, Jack.) - "The Silver Daddies." He loved all sports but his favorite was being with the guys on Wednesday nights for fantasy baseball. Even his church choir practice had to move to Thursday so he could go to baseball meetings. Harold was a deacon at his church, Reading-Lockland Presbyterian Church, for 14 years.
Visitation will take place at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 310 Dunn St., Lockland on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 5-8 PM. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10 AM at the funeral home. After the service on Saturday, please join the family in the procession to Rest Haven Memorial Park if you can for full military honors that will be given to Harold. There will be food and drinks at the Reading-Lockland Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Cooper Ave., Lockland. Please come by if you can.
