CHABOTGloria Grace, nee Lewis, died peacefully at the age of 87 on July 3, 2012. Born in Buffalo, NY on February 17, 1925, she was raised in New York City and Mount Vernon, N.Y., a daughter of late Dr. Robert A. and Mabel Lewis. Gloria attended Mary Washington College and Columbia University and subsequently moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she met her late husband, Robert Chabot. Gloria and Rob relocated to Cincinnati in 1955, where they began a 45-year affiliation with Norwood Hardware and Supply Company. In addition to raising four children, Gloria maintained a lifelong interest in education, the fine arts, and culture. An inveterate traveler, she enjoyed trips with close friends to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. For many years, she was a student of the late Paul Chidlaw, noted Cincinnati artist, and exhibited her paintings in local galleries and shows. Her children remember many trips to the Cincinnati Art Museum, Playhouse in the Park, and theater productions at Edgecliff College. She was a regional director for American Field Service, matching international students for a year of high school with local families, and taught weekly religious education in the Cincinnati public schools. In her later years, she returned to school studying philosophy and literature at Xavier University. She became President of Norwood Hardware and participated in local business organizations.Gloria is survived by her daughters, Lisabeth Chabot (Nick Whitmer), of Ithaca, NY and Patricia (and Mark) Kicklighter, of College Station, TX; sons, Matt Chabot (Kathy Chabot), and Craig Chabot, (Nancy Chabot) as well as ten grandchildren. Her siblings, Rosalie Harrison, of Florida, Robert A. Lewis, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, and Mary Ellen Simons, of Yardley, PA, also survive her.Her family and friends will deeply miss her enthusiasm for adventure, her zest for life, and her love of hats, antique jewelry, and foreign sports cars. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Annunciation Parish, 3547 Clifton Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45220 at 10:00 am with a Funeral Liturgy immediately following at 11:00 am also at Annunciation Parish. Donations in her name may be made to Vitas or The Cincinnati Art Museum.
