Gerald “Gerry” Mattingly, age 84, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. He retired from GE Aviation where he worked for 30 years. His job took him all over the world to Japan, France, Israel, South Korea, Finland, Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil and many more countries. He had so many points from flying around the world he was able to take his entire family to Hawaii.
Gerry served in the Army National Guard, he was an avid bowler and showcased his wins with many trophies in his office. He learned to play golf in his 30s, played with his GE league, and was lucky enough to play on some of the best courses in the world.
He graduated from Male Highschool in Louisville, KY. He later graduated from University of Cincinnati where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega and continued to be involved with many of his brothers for many years. He was also a Mason joining E.T. Carson lodge Clifton, Ohio.
He was a dedicated sports fan following the Cincinnati Bengals, Reds, and Bearcats and the Louisville Cardinals. He loved attending his grandchildren’s baseball games as well.
He had a deep devotion to his faith and his church, he read his bible daily. Was a member of a daily worship prayer group for many years. He was a kind and generous soul, serving the homeless shelter in Louisville for many years with his time and donations. He attended service at Christ Church Glendale, Messiah-Trinity Church, and Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church. He donated his time and resources to the churches and served faithfully on some of their boards. He donated to countless other charities throughout his life.
He is survived by his current wife Jackie Fertig Mattingly, and her children John Fertig (Alyce) and Scott Fertig (Glenda), grandchildren Michael (Valerie), Paul (Hannah), and Neil, Austin, and Nolan. Great-grandchildren Calvin and Eden.
He is predeceased by his former wife Sue Cornelius Mattingly who passed away in 2007. They had two children Kelly Mattingly and Kerry Mattingly Hicks MD, and three grandchildren Mitchell, Brady, and Trey.
He is also predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Mattingly, and his sister Susan Mattingly (Morris) Hubster who had three children Morgan (Tiffany), Landon, and Kenley (Steve) Lintzenich.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Gerry’s memory to Christ Church Glendale, Messiah-Trinity Church, or Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church.
Family and friends may visit Friday, June 2, 2023 from 11:30 AM - until time of services at 12:30 PM at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale, Ohio 45246. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
