WWII UNITED STATES ARMY VETERAN

LUESSEN, Ezra A. Age 93. Passed peacefully among family on January 31, 2016 after a long illness. He was the Beloved husband of 65 years to Lois F. Luessen. Ezra was proceeded in death by his parents Ezra F. and Ester Luessen and his Sister, Evelyn Sargent. He was a High school Drum major and also a graduate of Walnut Hills High School in 1940.  Shortly after, he enlisted in the army and was honorably discharged after 4 years of military service in Alaska as a Dental Prosthetic technician. In 1948, he graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and shortly thereafter married Lois.  Ezra obtained his Master of Divinity from Duke University in 1954. Ezra was an accomplished trumpet musician. Playing alongside the notorious saxophone artist Lester Young while in the Army, he then went onto play in the Duke Ambassadors band and multiple jazz combo’s throughout the 1950’s. Prior to retiring as a Chaplain from The Christ Hospital in 1989, Ezra served in many United Methodist West Ohio Conference Churches. Ezra leaves to cherish in his memory, son Eric (Donna) Luessen and Grandchildren: Lauren (Adam) Testerman and Ryan Luessen. Friends may greet the family from 1:00 PM until time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 PM which will be held at Friendship United Methodist Church, 1025 Springfield Pike, Wyoming, Ohio 45215 on Saturday, February 6, 2015, in celebration of his life.
