ERNESTINE A MILLER November 13, 1920 - July 29, 2011 Cincinnati, OHErnestine A Miller, 90 years experience, formerly of Newburgh, NY and since 1995 a resident of Cincinnati, OH entered into rest on Friday, July 29th at Maple Knoll Bodmann Pavilion following a short illness. She was born November 13, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Caroline Cronin and a twin sister to Ethel J. Doody who predeceased her on February 28, 2011.She was a June 1939 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy high school and later attended the Central Academy of Beauty Culture in Newburgh and was licensed to teach the Marinello System of Beauty Culture and was a member of the National School of Cosmeticians. During her early years she enjoyed playing the Hawaiian guitar, singing, and performing acrobatics.Ernestine or "Ernie" as most of her friends would call her, married on June 28, 1947 to Carl A. Miller and within 4 years they had a son Charles R. and a daughter Christine A. They built two field stone homes in Gardnertown, NY from the ground up and she performed many tasks such as laborer, painter and carpenter. Raising two children was her main occupation as a home maker but in her spare time she was an independent Beautician for extra income. She enjoyed the classical waltz, cooking, baking and knitting. She knitted many kinds of items for others and her children including sweaters, gloves, scarves, baby blankets and afghans. Some of the sweaters are still worn today by friends and family. Ernestine was a very social person and loved people and in turn people loved her. She had a number of hobbies like playing the Hawaiian guitar, flower gardening and a member of the Order of Eastern Star of the Hudson River Chapter. She became Worthy Matron of the OES in January, 1963 which was one of her crowning achievements. She also wanted to always improve herself with scholastic endeavors. Ernie took continuing education classes in word processing and graduated with honors from Orange County Community College with a two year general degree in June 1978.Her marriage came to an end when Ernestine and Carl divorced in 1982. Ernie and Carl never remarried and he passed in March 2009. Over her entire career she worked in various positions of employment like in a Chiropractor's office, as a Key Punch Operator, as a Deli Sales Person in a large Grocery store and as a Beautician. In 1995 she moved to Independent living at Maple Knoll Communities in Cincinnati, OH which was near her son Charles and daughter-in-law Rebecca. Ernie found it easy to make friends in her new home and continued knitting and found new hobbies like bingo, exercising, and walking. She loved to travel on group trips to South Carolina, Kentucky and various places in Ohio. She enjoyed every Holiday and Birthday with her family. She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew and loved her. Ernestine once wrote the following note to her family after a Holiday Gathering: "I possess one of the greatest treasures of all; more precious than diamonds or gold and that is the love of my family. The thoughtfulness, caring and the many ways you show it on this Mothers Day, I thank thee Lord. If everyone could be as lucky as me then the world would be a better place to live."Ernestine was survived by two granddaughters Amanda and Maria from her daughter Christine and two grand daughters Amanda and Erika from her son Charles. Recently she became a great grandmother from both Christine and Charles. She became a great grandmother to Alyssa on her daughter's side and a great grandmother to Charlie and Henry of Erika and Scott Ungerbuehler and Wesley of Amanda and Shawn Bausman on her son's side.A Memorial Service will be held from 11 AM to 12 Noon on Friday, August 19, 2011 at "The Chapel on the Green" at Maple Knoll Village. Enter Maple Knoll Village onto Maple Trace Drive at the traffic light at Highway 4 (Springfield Pike). Go to the second stop sign and turn Right onto Rock Maple Drive, park and enter at the flag pole. Upon entering 11100 "Village Center," turn left down the hall. The Chapel is past the gift shop.
