Elizabeth Vogt Troller passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, September 17th, 2016. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 19th, 1934 to Edward and Anna Vogt. She leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, John Arthur Troller and four sons, David (Susan Ferrell), Fritz (Lisa Soltis), Michael (Noël Voskuil) and Peter, as well as ten grandchildren: Katie Bond (Chris Bond), Drew and Rob, Maggie, Claire and Jack, Lukas and John, Sam and Elizabeth. She also leaves behind her sister Marilyn Sullivan, her daughter Cari Schwerman and grand-niece and nephew, Ellie and Alec Glynn.
She went to the University of Wisconsin where, at the Kappa Delta house, she met a dashing young biologist who literally threw himself at her feet to impress and beguile her. It worked. They were married in WI in June of 1956 and moved to Fort Benning, GA when John was in the military service, where he was a 1st Lieutenant. There the first of four sons was born and Elizabeth, Betty to many, began a new life as a mother and wife. After the service, John found lifelong employment at Procter & Gamble beginning in 1962. Eventually they built a home and settled in Wyoming, OH amongst the verdant green forests and pastoral splendors of the era. The field behind the house held a bull for a number of years and the farms and creeks became the canvas upon which the family grew.
Betty was an amazing mother and wife but also pursued her field of speech therapy and other endeavors, eventually becoming a real estate agent with a keen eye for value. She once bought a house and a convertible at a sheriff’s auction in the middle of a blizzard. She is remembered by all as a vibrant, beautiful woman at every age, a thousand watt smile with a laugh that was infectious, a wit that was bold, maybe brash but also gentle and kind.
She fought cancer bravely and continually in her final years, but she played tennis, flew around the country and the world visiting children and grandchildren and was always ready to help with a skinned knee or a belly laugh. Betty was a long time supporter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and was active in her communities in Ohio and in Florida. Betty is remembered by her many friends and family in Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida where they vacationed every winter for almost two decades.
Celebrate life. Betty certainly did. She is now in the loving arms of God.
A memorial service will be held on October 1st, at 11:00 AM at Wyoming Presbyterian Church, 225 Wyoming Ave, Wyoming, OH 45215. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. More information can be found at
