NEUMANNEdith May, 89, of Fairfield, OH died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield.Edith was born to Nicholas and Jessie (Needham) May on February 16, 1920 in Boston, NY. Edith is survived by a daughter, Barbara Neumann White, wife of Donald White of Fairfield, three grandchildren, James, Stephen, and Christina, a sister, Florence Drankhan, of Boston, NY and a sister-in-law, Winifred Dunstan of Pleasanton, CA.Edith was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Oscar, a son, Craig, two sisters, Gladys and Kathryn and two brothers, David and Earl.Edith attended Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY where she obtained her certification as a registered nurse. In a career over 40 years, she worked in a variety of settings including private practice, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, and finally served as an industrial nurse for the Union Carbide Company in Niagra Falls. Edith moved to Fairfield, OH in 2003 and had been active in the Fairfield Pavilion residential facility. She was an active member of local churches and enjoyed art classes, bingo, and the Red Hats group at the Pavilion. Visitation and funeral services will be held in Niagra Falls, NY at the Otto Redanz Funeral Home, Friday-Saturday, November 6-7. The family requests that memorials may be directed to the charity of choice or the American Heart Association.On behalf of Edith, the family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff and doctors at the Fairfield Pavilion, TriCounty Extended Care, and Mercy Hospital of Fairfield for their professional and loving care.
