UNITED STATES NAVY VETERAN
Gene "Doc" Burt, beloved husband of Cherie (nee Gruber) Burt for 59 years. Loving father of Debbie (Jody) Bradley, Sally (Garry) Wilson, Patti (Chris Simmons), Sandy and Rick (Molly Koch) Burt. Devoted grandfather of Rebecca (Dan Smith) and Jessica Wilson, Brett Simmons, Eric, Alissa, Caleb and Mia Burt, Joseph Baker and Naomi (Joshua Gillispie) Rolfes. Loving brother of Ruth Smith and Wanda Molen. Loving brother in law of Joe Eggers. Preceded in death by his parents, James Earl and Florence (nee Alford) Burt, his brother Donald Burt and his sisters Gloria Eggers and Faye Langdon and brother in law Jack Smith. Survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He leaves behind a multitude of friends.
Born October 30, 1929 in Alexandria, Kentucky and enlisted in the Navy on January 10, 1951. He served as a corpsman in the Korean Conflict. He was wounded on September 5, 1952 and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on November 24, 1954. He came home and began working at Procter and Gamble until his retirement. He passed away peacefully on May 3rd at home after fighting a valiant fight at the age of 85.
Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2015 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM at Vorhis and Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale Ohio 45246. The procession will then travel to Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Mt. Healthy, 45231 for graveside services at 11:30 AM. Debbie Bradley officiating. Eulogy to be read by Dan Smith.
