Dessie Arns

Dessie Lucille Arns (nee Ashton), 84, died peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 59 ½ years, Charlie, and her children Marla (Brad) Overholt, Darla Bretz, Susan (Lee) Jorde, John Arns, and Bill (Jenni) Arns; ten grandchildren: Christopher, Margaret (Vince), Cole (Kristen), Connor (Heather), Zachary, Elijah, Allie, Taylor, Philip, & Samuel; seven great-grandchildren: Ashton, Eleanore, William, Reese, Finley, Charlie & Wesley; her sister Lura Stephens, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis & Mary Ashton, brothers Charlie & Herbert Ashton, sister Maxine Pinkston, and son-in-law Donald Bretz. She was born in McCreary County, Kentucky in 1931 and graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1951. She was a former employee of AT&T Long Lines and Madison’s Dress Shop. Dessie was an active member of her church, an avid bridge player, and a past president of the Forest Park Women’s Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, her cat, Baby, and cheering on her beloved UK Wildcats. Her quick wit and sense of humor brought laughter to all who knew her. She had a deep compassion for others and passed on a legacy of faith to her children that will continue throughout many generations.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 11981 Pippin Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45231, from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made to Hospice of Cincinnati or the Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information in memory of Donald Bretz.
