Charles "Charlie" Arns

Charles " Charlie" Donald Arns, 89, died on Christmas morning, 2021 at the Alois Alzheimer Center, Greenhills, Ohio from congestive heart failure after suffering with dementia.
He is survived by his five children; Marla (Brad) Overholt, Darla Bretz, Susan (Lee) Jorde, John Arns and Bill (Jenni) Arns, ten grandchildren; Christopher, Margaret (Vince), Cole (Kristen), Connor (Heather), Zachary (Abby), Elijah, Philip, Samuel, Allison, and Taylor, ten great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is survived by his brother Richard (Betty) as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dessie, his parents Charles and Sue, sister JoAnn, brother Denny, and son-in-law Don Bretz.

He was born in Covington, Kentucky on August 5, 1932, and graduated from Ludlow High School in 1950. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955. He married Dessie L. Ashton in 1956. He graduated from Chase College in 1963. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years and retired in 1988. He was active in the Ludlow, Kentucky Vets, the Greenhills, Ohio American Legion and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel.

He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, enjoyed playing golf, card games, bowling, and yard games. He loved his cats, listening to country music and cheering on the Bengals and the Reds. He was an avid joke teller and made the best chili in the world. No matter their ages, he couldn’t rest until all his kids were home safe and sound. Together with Mom, he left a legacy of faith and love that will be carried down through many generations.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 11981 Pippin Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45231 at 10:00am, followed by a service at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
