UNITED STATES ARMY WWII VETERAN
MILLER, Charles Fredrick. Went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 23, 2019, 103 days short of his 100th birthday. He was married 64 years to Philomena (nee Mastronardi) Miller, whom proceeded him in death on October 13, 2019.
Charles was born in New Albany, IN on February 3, 1920 to Arthur and Edith Miller. He graduated from high school in Jeffersonville, IN in 1938 and attended Indiana University. He was proud to be an army veteran of WWII and was stationed overseas for three years, including Battle of the Bulge. He was a professional drummer with several big bands in his early years, including in the Army. He was a talented artist with oil and charcoal mediums, and enjoyed storytelling and writing short stories about his life experiences.
Charles was a member of the Greenhills Community Church, Presbyterian for 66 years. An avid volunteer; he was a member of Hugh Watson Greenhills American Legion Post 530 for 60 years, a member of the Board of Directors of the Greenhills Credit Union, a volunteer at the Clovernook Home and School for the Blind for 10 years, volunteer for Mercy South Hospital for 10 years, and a member of the Maple Knoll Auxiliary for over 40 years. He was also active with the Big Brother / Little Brother Program and he volunteered for the Cincinnati International Visitors Bureau where he met and informally adopted three families from India which have been a big part of his life for many years. Charles and Phil traveled extensively visiting all 50 states, 59 countries, and enjoyed many cruises.
Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Jane Pinnell. He is survived by his sister, Norma Stillman Betts who is 102 years old; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pk., Springdale, OH 45246 on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 11am until time of funeral service at 12noon. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenhills Community Church, Presbyterian, 21 Cromwell Rd., Greenhills, OH 45218 or to Maple Knoll Future Care Fund.
