Barbara Dorton

Barbara Jo (Reach) Dorton, age 89, passed away at her daughter’s home with her family present, on April 3, 2025. She was born March 14, 1936 in Crackers Neck, Virginia. Barbara graduated from East Stone Gap High School in 1954 and married later that summer. After moving to Florida for a short time, she and her family eventually relocated to West Chester, Ohio in 1962.

Barbara, known as Bobbie to her family and Barb to her friends, was a mother and housewife until her children were grown, after which she held a variety of positions, the last being a Registration Clerk at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved traveling, gardening, reading and playing cards. Her loving presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Stella M. Reach; her son, Daniel C. Dorton; her sister, Joyce Holmes and her brother, Walter T. Reach. She is survived by her children Donna (David) Garrett, Debra (James) Cash, Bill (Rebecca) Dorton; her grandchildren, Rachel (Hananiel) Sarella, Emily (Jeffery) Williams, Hannah Dorton, James (Rachel) Cash, Jason Cash, Katie Garrett and Kristen Garrett; her great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Evelynn and Nathaniel Sarella; Harrison, Norah and Cecelia Cash; Samuel, Noah and Henry Williams; Jewel, Haven and Lily Cash; her sister, Charlotte Nichols; Irvin Huening, her loving companion of twenty years and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00am - 12:00pm Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale, Ohio 45246, with a memorial service at 12:00pm. Internment will follow the service.

After the service, flowers will be donated to "Petals for Hope"
