BECKNER, Dr. Archie Wilson, age 78 of Springdale, OH died October 24, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton due to complications from post-polio syndrome. Survived by his wife Barbara Hughes; a brother, Curtis (Beverly) of Troy, OH, sons Christopher (Kristen) of Hamilton, OH and Randall (Lee) of Ann Arbor, MI. Also survived by three granddaughters, Victoria Titzer and Jeanette and Olivia Accorinti; great-grandson, James Pistorio; and numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Rhoda (nee Skiles) Beckner and wife Jayne Rae (nee Moore). He was born in Pleasant Hill, OH on June 2, 1935. Archie attended Manchester College in Indiana before graduating from The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry in 1960. He practiced general dentistry in Cincinnati until pursuing a specialty degree in periodontics at University of Kentucky in 1968. He opened a periodontal office in Springdale in 1970, retiring in 2012. Dr. Archie was actively involved in many professional organizations including the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Periodontology. He founded the Greater Cincinnati Dental Study Club in the 1960's, and lectured frequently at Scarlet Oaks Vocational School and University of Kentucky. His hobbies included golf, fishing, woodworking and travel. He had a passion for teaching, mission and volunteer work. However, most will remember his creative storytelling and contagious sense of humor. A visitation will be held at the Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 11365 Springfield Pike, Springdale, OH 45246 on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 2:30 PM until time of memorial service at 4:00 PM.
