Jeanette was born in North East, Erie County, PA on August 16, 1930 to the late Frederic Charles and Emma Leona (nee Hollister) Haskell. She was baptized on September 06, 1930 in the Methodist Church in North East. During her school years she attended Heard Memorial Grade School and North East High School while living at 35 Park Street in North East with her grandparents; J. Wayne and Florence (nee Leet) Haskell; a small jewelry store/business owner on Lake Street. She attended the First Presbyterian Church on Main St, held various positions in the Order of Rainbow Girls (a Masonic youth organization) including Worthy Adviser. She joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church after her marriage to John Rodencal on November 21, 1950. They celebrated their 90th Birthdays and 70 years together in 2020.
After high school graduation in 1948, she tried continuing education at Grove City College, but settled for positions as telephone operator ("number please?") and "Dental Technician" until the birth of Lee, her oldest son in 1952. After John completed his General Electric Apprentice Machinist Training, the family moved to Cincinnati, OH in the summer of 1952 to work at the General Electric Evendale Plant.
Jeanette became a "homemaker" as her four (4) children grew and progressed through elementary and high school. She is a Charter Member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Greenhills, OH, currently holding membership at Christ Lutheran Church in Groesbeck, OH. She provided music (piano and a mechanized antique reed pump organ) for divine services during Messiah's early years. She also assisted in Messiah's Pre-School, held offices in Messiah's Women's Guild, and branched outside Messiah to work diligently with the Women's Auxiliary of the Federation of Lutheran of Churches of Cincinnati for many years. She provided piano music for 30 years to the patient's religious services at Drake Hospital.
Jeanette accompanied John (General Electric) to live in Le Pouliquen, located in the Brittany Loire Region of France (Atlantic sea coast) for five (5) plus years followed by six (6) months in Melbourne, Australia. She was always a willing partner to make John's work effort enjoyable. She was an excellent ambassador of the "American culture" wherever she lived. She was the epitome of a "soul-mate"!
She showed signs of dementia in 2008; diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2010. Jeanette/John raised their family and lived in their Daly Road home for 57 years. Her final years were lived in Maple Knoll Village, Springdale, OH, with John; moving into Maple Knoll's Bodmann Skilled Nursing Pavilion in 2016 and her subsequent death caused by Covid complications on Christmas Eve, 24 December 2020.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her oldest son, Lee F. Rodencal of Espanola, NM, in 2014. Her surviving children are Larry J.(Sandra) Rodencal of Cincinnati, Lynne M. (Cecil) Hubbard of New Philadelphia, OH, and Lance L. (Rhonda) Rodencal of Weatherford, TX. She is also survived by nine (9) Grandchildren in NE, OH, CA, MO, TX, twelve (12) Great Grand Children. Her spouse, John continues to live at Maple Knoll Village in Springdale, Oh.
A private "Service of Remembrance" will be held for the immediate family due to Covid regulations. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church, Grosbeck, OH. or Messiah Lutheran Church, Greenhills, OH.
COPING with DIMENTIA and COVID
Our daily visits included praying the Lord’s Prayer and sometimes the 23rd Psalm together. When I would ask her to pray with me, she would say “Sure” with a smile. As we prayed slowly, she would follow and if I hesitated, sometimes lead me into the next phrase. It was the highlight of each visit!
